Site Handover Phase 2

Wednesday, 27th May 2009 marked another important step toward the renovation of St. Mary’s Hospital in Rehoboth. The site-handover for the 2nd phase of the works took place in the presence of Sr. Angela Bock (Director of Health CHS), Ms. Bertha Katjivena (Director of Hardap Region of the Ministry of Health and Social Services), Members of the Hardap Regional Management Team, Mr. Eckhard Siedentopf (Architect) Ms. Castelanos from the MOHSS.

During the comming year the general ward, maternity ward, the private and the low care wards will be renovated. A completely new mortuary and incinerator will be built. Further alterations include a new Hospital street and chapel. The tender for this 12.5 Mio. N$ phase was awarded to J Groenewald Properties.

On Monday, 13th August 2007 at 10:00 hrs, the site handover from the Roman Catholic Church to the contractor has taken place at St. Mary’s Hospital.

His Excellency Bishop Philipp Pöllitzer (Diocese of Keetmanshoop) and Mr. Raymund L. Maasdorp representing the constructor Vantage Enterprise cc, witnessed by Sr. Adelinde Gervasius (National Office Catholic Health Services – CHS) signed the contract for the renovation- and alteration works of the paediatric ward at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rehoboth.

The handover of the site was also attended by Ref. Fath. W. Christiaans (R.C. Parish), Mrs. C. Thataone (MoHSS – Hardap), Dr. Mark Eighemhenrio (PMO St. Mary’s Hospital), Mr. J. F. Wohler (Control Officer St. Mary’s Hospital), S.M.Jannetjies Matron St.Mary’s Hospital, Dr. G. A. Rehoboth, August 2007 - The Renovation Starts

On Monday, 13th August 2007, St. Mary’s Hospital, Rehoboth is going to start with major renovation and restructuring works, as the only CHS District Hospital which has not been renovated since Independence.

The St. Mary’s Hospital is managed by Catholic Health Services (CHS), the building is owned by the Roman Catholic Church, Diocese of Keetmanshoop. As a District Hospital, it is fully subsidized by the Ministry of Health & Social Services (MOHSS). As per the Partnership Agreement between the Roman Catholic Church and MOHSS, the latter is expected to contribute 50% of the renovation costs.

The renovation and restructure works are planned to take place during the next 3 years, conducted in phases, depending on the availability of funds. The overall cost of the project is estimated at 38 Mio N$. Fundraising is ongoing and any contribution will be very welcomed. Please contact the project office at St. Mary’s Hospital. The project plans are based on a feasibility study and design report of Eckhard Siedentopf, Architectural design in Windhoek. Quantity Surveyors are Dawn Adams & Associates, Windhoek. On the hospital’s side, a project office has been setup to co-ordinate the various stakeholders’, donors’ and the community’s needs and enquiries.

On Monday, 13th of August 2007, the first phase, including the renovation & alteration of the paediatric ward is going to start. This is possible thanks to the funds received from France Coorporation (French Embassy in Namibia), Die Johanniter Intl. Assistance in Germany, Missio Würzburg in Germany and Diocese Würzburg in Germany and PMK. The newly setup ward is planned to be finished in November 2007.

The celebration at St.Mary’s Hospital for the project commencement on the 13th of August 2007 – 10:00, will be met by his Excellency, Bishop Philipp Pöllitzer (Diocese of Keetmanshoop), Sister Ottilie Kutenda (Director of CHS Health Services) Mrs. Castellanos (MOHSS) and Mr. Eckhard Siedentopf (Architect).
